With work and family commitments, women's lives differ than ten years ago and the modern day women want more out of their locker room. The majority of the women who use the health club before work lack the time to travel back to their home to shower and change into their work clothes. This is why a majority of locker rooms contain showers to make the patrons' day a little more convenient. However a big problem today is that a majority of women are wary of showering in open areas. They like the same privacy that they have when they go home, and because of this, it is time for facilities to rethink certain aspects when you are building and/or renovate your facility.
Here are some tips and suggestions on how to create the perfect locker room for women, while still being within your budget constraints.
Design Tips
Women feel more comfortable changing and showering in private. A very successful layout for a women's locker room is to have either individual changing rooms, or to have a multi-purpose use stall that a woman can both shower and change in. This can be done in several ways, but the most cost effective way is to utilizing toilet partitions to enclose the shower area. Less tiles equals less labor and materials.
When enclosing or semi enclosing a private shower we suggest the following:
- Over head lighting on in the shower stall and the other in the changing area
- A built in seat
- A minimal of three clothing hooks
- A floor drain: secondary drainage is very important, but you must locate the drain as to prevent stepping on it.
With these simple tips and suggestions RFCY hopes to cause awareness for those who are more self-conscious than others. The utilization of these design tips will benefit not only the patron but also the facility revenue.
